Break
Johnny Carson’s Burfie opens the door and, again, he is first one out, nearly colliding with the Reverend Doctor John Rodgers – legendary for his prolonged greetings — well-known for his ability to spend ten minutes on cold Manhattan sidewalks inquiring about every member of the household, the family cow, and the broken fence of a year before…
Impossible to avoid, Johnny Carson skids to a stop. At least he doesn’t know anyone in Carson’s family…
Instead, the good Reverend was apparently a fan of show — and can recount, in detail, multiple episodes.
Taking a breath for escape, Johnny Carson releases it when the Reverend finally says: “You appear impatient, my son.”
“A bit. Urgent need. Looking for the right door.”
“God has an interesting way with doors,” says John Rodgers.
Doors and bridges…
There’s a lesson behind every door and an adventure beyond every bridge.
But you get a limited choice.
And rarely the one you seek.
If you do get the one want, be wary:
You will be a different person when you arrive.
“Yes, I seem to be getting that message,” says Carson, squirming.
The old man pats his hand and smiles. “God’s building the door you need. Just keep moving…or not. Sometimes you just have to wait.”
Waiting was getting more and more painful.
Trying not too look too impatient, Johnny Carson hurries away.
The corridor stretches ahead, lined with mirrors that reflect only his back. He walks faster, and the reflections walk away.
His Burfie’s yellow light is flashing desperately. But he does not find the pictogram of relief.
