Genesis

In the beginning was the land.

Without fence and void of rule.

And the face of America was wide,

And the soil deep,

And buffalo wandered from sea to sea.

And The Man said:

Let the land bear fruit.

And let the rivers flow.

And so they did.

From the South flowed three rivers:

The smoke of tobacco.

The cloth of cotton.

And the taste of sugar.

And to and from the North flowed a fourth:

Money.

And, lo, it was declared good.

The man called it prosperity.

The Man said:   Let dominion be his.

And, thus, it came to pass that he built a fence

between wombs.

He called one white and the other black.

He made laws

To guard the fence.

To bless the profit.

To close the gates

To keep the rivers flowing to The Man.

And He demanded obedience

With sheriffs and judges and juries of The Man..

And The Man said:

This is order.

This is duty.

This is good.

Even at their best, people, alone, cannot overcome what the Man says is good.
